“It’s the little things that make a big difference”

I was sitting in my livingroom the other night and could hear a very loud noise outside getting closer and closer…ahh, the sound of freedom as I call those most spectacular F35 jets doing night drills! They rumble with a noise that puts a lump in my throat every time I hear them. Thank you boys for your dedication to serving our country and God Bless America! My kids made fun of me and it reminded me that I am such a sap but also very grateful for such “little things” in my life.

I notice and am grateful for things like the first crocuses of spring, daffodils blooming, the smell of hyacinths in the front yard, the smiles of children when they are performing on a stage and the spirit that enters my heart because I feel their joy, grandchildren piling up on grandpa and the laughter that makes me feel like all is right in the world, an opportunity to tend a sweet great nephew and feel like I’m holding a piece of heaven in my arms, a pregnant mama dog upside down in the morning to welcome the day, grand dogs that love to see me and let me know they love it when I come over for a visit, my grandson saying, “grandma, can I sit next to you?, my granddaughter grabbing my hand when I put her to bed and just holding it for a minute as she falls asleep, road trips with my son, hot dogs on the Traegger grill and sweet text messages from my husband and kids…

Some things are very very little but they aren’t little things like the phone call I got telling me that our daughter is pregnant and due to have our lucky number 7 grandchild in December. Life is so full of sweet little things that can bring us so much joy but we have to stop and notice them. They aren’t the obvious things like gifts on our birthday or billboards on the highway, they truly are the “little things”, my husband, Chris always teaches us that we become better people by doing the “little things”, saying daily prayers, reading our scriptures and serving others. “…by small and simple things are great things brought to pass” Everyday there are tiny little tender mercies given to each of us and our job in this life is to notice and give thanks. So for today, I am so thankful for each of these “little things” and too many more to mention but what a glorious “little” life this is! And speaking of “little things”, it looks like this is the week for our sweet girl, Mika to deliver her 9 puppies! We are so excited for this adventure and to see where Mika’s babies will go and make a difference in the world.
